About Our Style:

Every photographer and artist has their own distinct “look and feel” to their work. A huge consideration you have to acknowledge when choosing your wedding photographer is their editing style. There are literally tens of thousands of different ways to edit the same photo and to make it look and feel completely different. No editing style is necessarily “right or wrong” and much of it is a decision based on personal preference - what style do you like the most?

The “Instagramy Look”
To put it bluntly we are not a big fan of the “Instagramy look” - basically adding a filter to every photo. This look typically has muted colors (especially greens) and unrealistic skin tones. This look is the best friend to inexperienced photographers in my opinion because filters can hide many imperfections such as inaccurate white balance and missed focus.

The “Light and Airy” Look
This is a look that is popular among “natural light” photographers who tend not to use any sort of off camera flash. Backgrounds are often blown out and skin tones are mostly unnatural. Colors are not true to life and often have a “pastel” and angelic look. I believe that light and airy has it’s place, but for a whole wedding portfolio it is overwhelming and ‘too much’ for my taste.

What is our style?
Here at Story Art Weddings we use three distinct categories of editing styles that complement each other like peanut butter and jelly!

  1. “True to Life”
We strive to create amazing photographs “in-camera” and edit them in a way that keeps them looking natural and professional. We aim for crisp, tack sharp focus and symmetrical straight-planed framing (you will not see any weird angled - crooked photos in your gallery)

2. “Black and White”
The same as our “True to Life” style for the most part except for in black and white. Some photos in your collection will just scream “epic” and “timeless”. The photos that we capture that are more sentimental and emotional will be turned to black and white to keep the mood and vibe of the moment.

3. The “Story Art” Style
As most of your photos will be “True to Life” we realize that there are some special photos that call for “extra special” edits. I call these the “Story Art” shots. These 4-6 photos in your gallery will be the ones that will go on your wedding album cover or be the photos you will blow up and display in your home as not just a picture…but a work of art! The photos that are the conversation starters and are so timeless that years down the road you still be in awe of the masterpiece that your were part of!
